We protect the Andean forest that makes Nido Amarillo a privileged place for birding: the same forest that shelters the birdlife visiting us. We grow our own food in a regenerative agroecosystem, another way of relating to the land. And we offer lodging inside that ecosystem — a maximum capacity of 14 guests in 7 rooms — so you can experience it up close.

The forest that makes this possible
Nido Amarillo lies within the Río Cali Protective Forest Reserve, neighbouring Farallones de Cali National Natural Park. Since 2025 we have held a Payment for Environmental Services Agreement with DAGMA covering 9.06 of our 11.4 hectares — a formal conservation commitment, not just an intention. That same forest is the habitat sustaining the species documented on our hotspot, including the Cauca Guan (Penelope perspicax), endemic to Colombia and listed as Vulnerable — an indicator of the site's conservation value, even though sightings are infrequent.
We grow part of our own food in a regenerative agroecosystem: food forests designed to work like natural forests — self-sustaining and self-regulating. Direct harvest from the forest and our own preparations — preserves, sauces, ferments — supply our farm to table restaurant, along with nearby producers. It is a concrete example of another way of relating to the land.
Birding
A hide operating since November 2023, with a maximum capacity of 14 observers and room for a camera tripod or a scope. Fruit feeding platforms, hummingbird feeders and gardens deliberately planted with species that attract birdlife complete the setting. When a birding outing is scheduled, we open from 6:30 a.m.

Lodging
Lodging inside the forest for up to 14 guests (maximum capacity) in 7 rooms, spread across a mountain house, two cabins and two sustainable rooms. We aim for restraint and honest materials — biomaterials left in plain sight, without artifice.

30 km (approx. 90 minutes) from Cali airport. 20 km (approx. 50 minutes) from Cali. 14 km (approx. 35 minutes) from Km 18, on a paved road via Felidia and El Saladito. 30 km (approx. 90 minutes) from Doña Dora Birding, on the Pacific slope.
How to book
We are open Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. — from 6:30 a.m. when a birding outing is scheduled. On weekdays, by prior booking.
